MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. has arrived at the St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City for the funeral of Pope Francis on Saturday.
In photos shared by the Presidential Communications Office, Marcos was accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

The president will be joining 170 other world leaders and around 250,000 people for the funeral of the late pontiff in front of St. Peter’s Basilica at 10 a.m., Rome time.
Pope Francis is set to be buried at Rome’s Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore.

He died at the age of 88 on April 21 due to a stroke and heart failure.
Through Proclamation No. 871, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Marcos on Wednesday declared a period of national mourning over the death of the pontiff.
The declaration said that the supreme Catholic church leader “became a global symbol of humility, compassion, and peace, devoting his ministry to the care of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable, and advocating tirelessly for social justice, equality, and interfaith dialogue.”
