MANILA, Philippines — Six Filipinos have returned home from Iran amid its ongoing conflict with Israel, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced.
“Six Filipino workers arrived safely at Naia (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) Terminal 3 in Pasay City early this morning aboard Emirates Flight EK 334,” the DMW said in a social media post on Saturday.
“The group consists of five overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) employed as shrimp hatchery technicians in Iran and one OFW, a domestic worker based in Dubai, who had accompanied her employer to Iran as a tourist,” the department added.
According to the DMW, the returning Filipinos were given cash aid by the agency as well as the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
OWWA will also arrange for the returning Filipinos’ temporary hotel accommodations and domestic flights back to their home provinces, the DMW added.
“Two more Filipino workers are expected to arrive tonight from Iran. This group marks the first batch of Filipinos repatriated from Iran following the June 13 Israel-Iran conflict,” the DMW noted.

Tensions between Israel and Iran escalated earlier this June, when the former launched preemptive strikes against the latter’s military and nuclear facilities.
The escalations prompted the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to raise Alert Level 3, which calls for voluntary repatriation, for Filipinos in Israel and Iran.
Around 1,180 Filipinos are in Iran, according to the DFA. /jpv
